Summer Camps at Oak Hill School
Camp Wild Oaks offers fun and enriching week-long summer camps for kids entering grades K-8. Open to the public, Camp Wild Oaks is situated on 72 acres in Eugene’s south hills near Lane Community College on the Oak Hill School campus. It’s an amazing place for kids to play, explore, learn and go wild!
Families can pick from a range of half-day or full-day camps to fill their summer days. Camp includes a 1-hour supervised lunch and recess break in between morning and afternoon sessions. Campers need to bring their own lunch. Before and after care is also available at an extra cost. A 15% sibling discount will be automatically applied at check-out for those registering more than one child.

Camp Wild Oaks offers two different summer camp options, day camps for grades K-5 and specialty enrichment camps for grades 3-8.
Wild Oaks Day Camps
Wild Oaks Day Camp is our traditional summer camp style experience for rising K-5th graders. Each week has a fresh new theme where campers can participate in activities including outdoor games, arts and crafts, fun challenges, escape rooms, and more.
Cost
Half Day (Morning OR Afternoon) – $150 per week
Full Day (Morning AND Afternoon) – $300 per week
Before Care (8-9 AM) – $30 per week (pre-registration required)

The grade ranges the camps are referring to are for the grade your child will be entering in the 2024-2025 school year, (their rising grade.)
Into the Wild (July 8-12, 2024)
Crash land into nature’s classroom during Into the Wild week. Campers will discover hidden treasure, explore the great outdoors, and learn essential survival skills. From navigating forest trails to identifying animal tracks, each day is a new adventure. All the while, there is a mysterious creature, lurking in the woods. Could it be the mysterious Bigfoot? Join the camp to find out!

Sailors and Sea Creatures (July 15-19, 2024)
Ahoy Mateys! Dive into the deep blue sea and join our crew of sailors and seafarers for an oceanic adventure. From desert islands to sunken treasure, the world is your oyster. Make a flag for your ship, create an animal sidekick, and challenge your opponents to a battle of epic proportions. Anchors away for this week of silliness and sea shanties!

Dragons, Wizards, and Magic! (July 22-26, 2024)
Young adventurers assemble! Embark on an epic week-long quest of imagination. Each day has a different series of tasks that adventures can partake in to strengthen newfound magic skills. On our journey, we’ll meet majestic dragons and band together to defeat a dark force before it takes over the enchanted forest for good. Will you become an animal whisperer, object alchemist, elemental mage, or a time weaver? Come to camp to explore this mystical realm?

Blast From the Past (July 29-August 2, 2024)
Fall into a wormhole and travel back in time to bygone eras. From paleontology to panning for gold, this week is an epic fast-track through history. During this brief blast from the past, young time travelers will work together to uncover hidden fossils, explore the formation of the American frontier, dance their way through the 20th century, and watch history unfold before their eyes!

Cabinet of Curiosities (August 5-9, 2024)
Embark on a journey of the bizarre and mysterious at our week-long summer camp, where curious minds delve into the realm of the unknown. Campers will create their own cabinet of curiosities and spend time exploring animal anatomy, entomology, and other oddities of the world. Join us for a week of wonder and discovery, where the strange and extraordinary materialize in front of you!

Secret Detective Society (August 12-16, 2024)
Calling all Sherlocks and Watsons, Agatha Christies and Nancy Drews! Delve into thrilling cases and hone your investigative prowess. From decoding cryptic messages to analyzing evidence and uncovering hidden secrets, young detectives will immerse themselves in the world of mystery and intrigue, where every clue solved brings us one step closer to unraveling the ultimate mystery!

Enrichment Camps
Wild Oaks Enrichment Camps consist of a variety of specialized enrichment camps for rising 3rd-8th graders. Each camp focuses on a different content area and is taught by a specialist instructor who has a passion for the subject. These classes focus on tech, gaming, and art and more. These camps run for a half day from 9am to 12pm or 1pm to 4pm.

D&D Camp: School of Magic

Summer is the perfect time for adventures! In this summer camp you will learn how to build and play characters you create! The first day you will learn the basics of how to play and build your character. The rest of the week will be spent playing a full campaign or two as time allows. D&D is super fun if you love role playing games, where you get to make the choices, but be forewarned those choices affect the outcome of the campaign!
This camp is appropriate for D&D players of all levels. The instructor will go over how to create a character and play on the first day. Previous experience not required.
About the campaign: Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos introduces the fantastical setting of Strixhaven University to Dungeons & Dragons, drawn from the multiverse of Magic: The Gathering. The greatest minds in the multiverse meet at Strixhaven University. Characters can explore the setting over the course of four adventures. Each describes an academic year filled with scholarly pursuits, campus shenanigans, exciting friendships, hidden dangers, conveying fantastic secrets to eager students, and life on campus is frenetic. But danger lurks even here. Campus hijinks mix with mishaps and sinister plots, and it’s up to you to save the day!
This camp will take place mostly indoors.
Minecraft: Survival Mode

Can you survive Minecraft? Campers will build and play on a local, shared world, creating laws for their community and surviving the game. Minecrafters in this camp will be assigned goals to achieve and challenges to overcome, with in-game rewards included.
This camp is a multiplayer enrichment camp that will take place indoors in the Oak Hill School Tech Barn.
Technical requirement: This camp requires attendees to have a Microsoft account, a Minecraft license, and multiplayer mode enabled. Parents will need to share login credentials for their child’s account including the password while enrolling.

Scratch

Grades 3-5 – Afternoon Session (1 PM -4 PM)

For this camp, we’ll be exploring Scratch – an amazing – and amazingly fun – block-based programming environment. Campers need no previous experience with either Scratch or programming, but those who do will be challenged to expand their knowledge and skills. Everyone will create multiple projects – from simple games to animations to music, and build to a larger and more complex program at the end of the week.
Technical requirement: This camp requires campers to set up a free Scratch account before camp starts.
About Scratch: Developed by the “Lifelong Kindergarten Group” at MIT, Scratch was designed to allow children of all ages to learn to program in a fun and natural way. It is cute and silly and totally serious. Mastering Scratch allows you not only to create amazing projects and, if you wish, share them with a huge, worldwide community, but provides a solid foundation for any other programming language.
This camp will take place indoors in the Oak Hill tech barn.
Script Writing For Stage and Screen

Why does your favorite character from a TV show, movie, or anime have such a cool personality? Someone put words in their mouth! In this camp, you can become a screenwriter. But the art of writing dialogue can be applied to so many mediums: write a script for fan fiction, a play, a comic or graphic novel, a comedy skit, or something else! We’ll read your favorite scripts, use fun writing prompts, write, and edit. We’ll also give constructive feedback and perform each other’s work. You’ll finish the class with a short script of 5+ pages, helpful suggestions from campmates and your teacher, and the experience of having others read your script. It is awesome to hear others “voice” your characters for the first time!
This enrichment camp is focused on writing and will take place mostly indoors.

Campers will be challenged to create big and small projects in Minecraft, including short timed challenges and huge, sprawling ones. Campers will visit and assess each others’ builds, and there will be prizes.

Moving from Block-based to Text-based Programming: Bash, Python, Java, and Beyond
Instructor: Tim Rogers
Grades 5-8 – Afternoon Session ( 1 pm – 4 pm)
Cost: $180
Expand your programming skills beyond Scratch into text-based programs. We will begin with text-based programming games, and move to practical projects using bash, Python, and Java. Campers will learn to say “Hello World” in several languages, and will create simple, practical programs doing things like decoding secret messages, creating and controlling bouncing balls on screen, and (hopefully) writing a network chat program to communicate with each other. Programming experience is helpful but not required.
About Text-Based Programming: Scratch is amazing – but most programming is done with text-based languages like Python or C or Java. And making the leap from block-based programming to text-based programming can be difficult. Students who love Scratch often struggle to get comfortable with text-based languages. This camp is intended to help.

You Too Can Create a Youtube Review!

Become a thoughtful voice on YouTube! When you’re interested in something, do you learn more about it through YouTube? Do you learn about the best video games, card games, foods, technology, or clothes? If so, you’ve been watching YouTube reviews or essays – and you could be the next epic YouTube reviewer! Become an expert on something you love. We’ll discover what makes the best YouTube reviews, dive into what others think about your topic, conquer camera fright and record our videos. Leave with a recording of your review that you can edit further at home, share with your family and friends, or upload to your own YouTube channel (with parent help and permission, of course).
Please note: Due to YouTube’s privacy requirements for minors, we cannot help campers create YouTube channels during this camp. Campers do not need a YouTube account to participate.
This camp is focused on creating videos and will take place mostly indoors.
Minecraft: Battles

Campers will build homes and fortresses, and battle with each other both individually and in teams. Battles will include Bed Wars, Capture the Flag, and more. Campers will also have the opportunity to use Minecraft Mods to enhance their play.

Tabletop Roleplay Adventures for Kids

Cost: $195
Join a small group of other tabletop players to go on a quest to Starport. This non-violent game of adventure and imagination takes place in an open world where magic is real and anything can happen. Isabelle will be your guide as you grow your problem-solving and teamwork skills. During the week campers will learn how to create a character, navigate the wide landscape, and embark on collaborative journeys in the world of the game. This camp is perfect for kids who want to learn how to play tabletop roleplay games.
Please note: This camp has a maximum of 5 campers and is therefore going to be offered in two sessions to accommodate more kids. To give the maximum number of kids a chance to join, please only register for morning OR afternoon and not both.

Exploring Linux
Instructor: Tim Rogers
Grades 6-8 – Afternoon Session (1 PM – 4PM)

Calling young techies! In this camp, we will explore Linux – everything from installing it to configuring it to using it. We’ll focus on Debian Linux. Each student will install and configure their own copy of Linux on their own computer – perhaps more than once – and take their new system home with them at the end of the week. Along the way, we’ll learn about – oh, everything. Hard disk partitions and network security and TCP/IP network, package managers and open source software and command line interfaces and GUIs. This camp will be the coolest thing ever for anyone who is excited about computers and cannot wait to learn more (and an absolute snooze for anyone else.)
About Linux: Linux is a free, open source UNIX-based operating system. Today it runs most of the Internet, most cell phones, all Chromebooks, and an astonishing number of telephones, routers, Wi-Fi APs, thermostats, TVs, and other other invisible devices.
Material Fee: The fees for this camp include an EOL (end of life) PC (with no keyboard, mouse, or monitor) that campers will keep to take home when camp ends to continue their Linux exploration.

Learn Magic: the Gathering

Want to learn to play Magic the Gathering? Magic (or MTG) is a fun and exciting game that you can play with your friends. In this camp you will learn the basic rules of the game as well as some strategies to improve your game as you go. Everyone will take home a new starting deck that has been constructed as a starting point for their Magic journey. If you’re ready to start your journey come join us.

ROBLOX® Makers

Grades 3-6 – Morning (9 am – 1 pm)

Unlock the power of ROBLOX® Studio, the world creation tool used by real-world ROBLOX® developers! Learn how to build 3D models and create an adventure in your ROBLOX® world. Bring characters to life with unique animations you design. Student-created projects will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.
We’re partnering with Blackrocket for this camp. This camp mostly takes place indoors.
Upcycled Art Lab
Instructor: Tayler Peters
Grades 3-6 – Morning Session (9am – 1 pm)
Cost: $195
Join Ms. Tayler to explore how to turn objects into works of art. From discarded toy key chains to crayon art, we’ll make trash into treasure. Each day of camp we will explore different materials and make them into something new. Activities will include rock painting, plastic dinosaur sculptures, recycled material instruments, and more. All supplies will be provided, just bring your endless creativity and willingness to explore.

Code Your Own Adventure! Interactive Storytelling
Instructor: Drea Lee
Grades 4-8 – Afternoon (1 pm – 4 pm)
Cost: $265
Watch as the characters in your imagination come to life in this unique course that blends classic storytelling with animation techniques and coding. Start with a concept, design the characters, and choose not just one ending, but many! Learn how to create your own text-based adventure games with variables, conditional logic, images, HTML, CSS, and Twine scripting syntax. Student projects will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.
We’re partnering with Blackrocket for this camp. This is a tech camp that takes place mostly indoors.
Sports-O-Rama

Grades 3-5 – Afternoon Session (1 pm – 4 pm)
Cost: $180
Join Ms. Emma for a week of fun summer sports activities and games! We will be exploring some well-known and loved sports, as well as some new ones you may have not played before. Examples include: soccer, basketball, rugby, kickball, volleyball, and badminton. Bring your water bottle and tennis shoes, and let’s have some fun in the sun!
This camp will happen outdoors and/or in the Oak Hill gym.
Disney Vocal Workshop
Instructor: Olivia LeSueur
Grades 3-6 – Morning Session (9 am – Noon)
Cost: $180
Have fun, build confidence, and develop musical theatre skills through Disney songs. Join Olivia to explore favorite songs from Encanto, Moana, and the Little Mermaid in this performing arts camp. Young singers will learn onstage vocal techniques, how to tell a story through group song and movement, and how to rehearse lines and songs in character.
This camp takes place mostly indoors. Weird and Funky Jewelry Lab
Instructor: Tayler Peters
Grades 3-6 – Morning Session (9am – 1 pm)
Cost: $195
Come create original jewelry with Ms. Tayler. In this maker’s lab, you’ll have the opportunity to create the weirdest, the funkiest, the most cool jewelry no one’s ever seen. From dangly earrings to friendship and charm bracelets, to a new piece of jewelry that you invent yourself, come explore your creativity. All materials will be provided, just bring your fun and funky brain to make the most of this camp.

Soccer FUNdamentals

Grades 3-5 – Afternoon Session (1 pm – 4 pm)
Cost: $185
Join Ms. Emma for a week of soccer fun! We will pass, dribble, shoot, and work on new techniques for ball control. To bring the “game day” feel, we will play a variety of activities that will cater to a range of skill levels. This camp is welcome to new and experienced soccer players. If you have gear, bring it!
Equipment Requirement: This camp requires campers to bring their own shin guards.
This camp will happen outdoors and/or in the Oak Hill gym.
Comic Creators

Get into drawing, writing, and sharing your own original comics in this 1-week summer camp! Students will create their own characters, worlds, and stories for comic books and comic strips. Using professional artist tools and practicing drawing and writing skills, students will get inspiration from classic comic strips and new graphic novels for adventure, fantasy, mystery, and slice-of-life comics! At the end of the camp, students will have a finished comic book, mini comic zine, and/or comic strips to take home.

Hamilton! Musical Review
Instructor: Olivia LeSueur
Grades 3-6 – Morning Session (9 am-Noon)

Rise up! Join Olivia to develop your Broadway theatre skills through the music of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s smash-hit Hamilton. Grow your onstage vocal technique and expand your rehearsal and performance skills – all while having fun. We’ll rehearse lines and lyrics in character, exploring how to tell a story through movement and song.

Physical Theatre Workshop
Instructor: Drea Lee
Grades 4-8 – Afternoon Session (1 pm – 4 pm)
Cost: $180
Calling budding actors to the stage! Join Drea, the Director of Chaos, and let’s spotlight the power of movement for telling stories in theatre. We’ll explore how posture, mannerisms, gait, and pacing help to communicate who a character is. We’ll learn about stock characters, explore physical comedy, and create our own short devised theatre pieces. This camp is perfect for actors of all experience levels who want to gain more skills while moving their bodies on stage.
